0.20% from a French-Swiss bank, but only if you're already paying for their banking package.
The Crédit Agricole CA Libre Epargne ranks #6 among Switzerland's 31 savings accounts. It's a standard savings account available exclusively to existing Crédit Agricole package customers. The rate is decent for the Swiss market but nothing exceptional. Think of it as a solid add-on, not a standalone product.
At 0.20% per year on balances up to CHF 100,000, this is roughly 4x what UBS or PostFinance offer. On CHF 50,000, that's CHF 100 per year versus CHF 25 elsewhere. Not life-changing, but real money that requires zero effort once set up.
Above CHF 100,000, the rate drops to 0%. So this account has a hard ceiling on where it makes sense. Keep your first CHF 100,000 here and park the rest somewhere else.
The withdrawal flexibility is above average. With a CHF 20,000 monthly limit (not annual), you can access up to CHF 240,000 per year. That's far more generous than most Swiss savings accounts that cap at CHF 20,000 to CHF 50,000 annually.
The 3-month notice period is standard. As a Crédit Agricole next bank product, you get the backing of a major international banking group. Free account opening and free termination keep things clean.
You can't open this without a banking package. A CA Start, CA Extra, or CA First pack is mandatory. If you're not already a customer, the package cost could easily eat into your savings interest. Do the math before committing.
The account allows one account per currency, which means you could open separate CHF, EUR, and other currency accounts. But the interest rates for non-CHF accounts may differ. Not suitable for payment services, so this remains purely a savings vehicle.
For existing Crédit Agricole customers, the Libre Epargne is a sensible place to park up to CHF 100,000. The monthly withdrawal flexibility is a genuine advantage. For everyone else, you'd need to factor in package costs. Compare it in our best savings accounts in Switzerland guide.
Verdict: Decent savings add-on for CA customers. Not worth switching banks for 0.20%.
