CHF 83 per year just for the debit card. What does that actually buy you?
The Swissquote Bright Private Account ranks #35 among Switzerland's 45 private accounts. It's the mid-tier offering from Swissquote's banking lineup, sitting between the free Light plan and the premium Elite. The main upgrade: a physical debit card and a few free ATM withdrawals.
The entire cost sits in the CHF 82.80 annual debit card fee. Account management is free. Compared to the free Light plan, you're paying CHF 83 for a physical Debit Mastercard and 5 free ATM withdrawals per month in Switzerland (then CHF 1.90 each). Abroad, withdrawals still cost CHF 4.90.
SEPA payments are free (versus EUR 2 on Light). That's a real saving if you transfer to Europe regularly. Non-SEPA payments remain CHF 10 each. No surcharges on card payments anywhere, same as Light. Currency exchange runs at 0.95% for 13 supported currencies.
The physical card availability for international residents is the unique angle. If you live in Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Austria, or Liechtenstein, the Bright plan is the entry point for getting a physical Swissquote debit card. Light only offers a virtual card.
The 13-currency multi-currency access remains the core feature. CHF, EUR, USD, GBP, and nine more. Zero surcharges on foreign currency card payments is genuinely competitive. Most traditional banks charge 1.5-2.5% on the same transactions.
Still no mobile banking app. Despite paying CHF 83 per year, you're still managing the account through a web browser only. The Yuh app (same Swissquote parent) offers mobile banking for free. This feels like a product gap that should've been fixed by now.
The tax statement costs CHF 85, which is more than the annual card fee itself. Physical account statements run CHF 25 each. These hidden costs can push your real annual spending well above the headline CHF 83 figure.
Bright makes sense if you specifically need a physical card with multi-currency access and free SEPA payments. The CHF 83 premium over Light is justified if you use ATMs and send SEPA transfers regularly. For everyone else, there are stronger options. Use our account matching tool to find what fits your actual usage patterns.
Verdict: Worthwhile upgrade from Light for physical card users. Still limited by the lack of mobile banking.
