Notre avis sur Swissquote Light Private Account

Thirteen currencies and zero fees. But no mobile app. That's a surprising trade-off.

The Swissquote Light Private Account ranks #32 among Switzerland's 45 private accounts. It's the free entry point to Swissquote's multi-currency platform, offering 13 currencies with no account or card fees. But the limitations are specific, and they start with the lack of a mobile banking app.

What Does Free Actually Mean?

No account management fee and no debit card fee. The card is virtual only (Debit Mastercard), so there's no physical card to carry. Zero surcharges on card payments abroad, which is rare. Most Swiss banks charge 1.5-2.5% on foreign currency purchases.

The costs surface elsewhere. SEPA payments run EUR 2 each, non-SEPA transfers cost CHF 10, and currency exchange carries a 0.95% conversion fee. Cash withdrawals abroad cost CHF 4.90 each. And here's the kicker: the annual tax statement costs CHF 85.

What Actually Stands Out

The 13-currency multi-currency account is the clear differentiator. CHF, EUR, USD, GBP, and nine more. You can hold, receive, and convert between them without separate accounts. That's a genuine advantage for internationally mobile people.

Swissquote is a regulated Swiss bank, so your deposits are covered by Swiss deposit insurance up to CHF 100,000. The combination of zero fees and multi-currency access is hard to find elsewhere, especially from a FINMA-regulated institution.

What Most Reviews Miss

No mobile banking app for the Light tier. You manage everything through the web interface. In 2026, that's a significant inconvenience. Competitors like Yuh (also backed by Swissquote) offer full mobile access for free.

Paper statements aren't available at all. Physical account statements cost CHF 25 each if you need them. The virtual-only debit card means no ATM withdrawals domestically and no in-store tap-to-pay. You're limited to online purchases unless you upgrade to the Bright or Elite tier.

The Bottom Line

This works best as a secondary account for online spending in multiple currencies. It's not a complete everyday banking solution due to the virtual card and no mobile app. If you need a full-featured free account, look higher in our best private accounts in Switzerland ranking. Swissquote Light is a niche tool, not a primary account.

Verdict: Useful free multi-currency account for online spending. Too limited for everyday banking.

Idéal pour: online shoppers who buy frequently in multiple currencies, anyone wanting a free multi-currency account from a regulated Swiss bank, secondary account holders who already have a primary bank for everyday banking
Considérez des alternatives si: you need a mobile banking app for day-to-day account management, you want a physical debit card for ATM withdrawals and in-store payments, you make frequent SEPA or international wire transfers

Questions fréquemment posées

Does Swissquote Light come with a physical debit card?
The card is virtual on Light, listed in the bank's feature set as 'Virtual debit card'. For physical card access you need to upgrade to Bright (with a card fee) or Elite. If you mostly shop online and rarely need a card in your wallet, Light works. If you need plastic, budget for the upgrade.
What do Light SEPA and non-SEPA transfers cost?
EUR 2 per SEPA payment and CHF 10 per non-SEPA payment, both above peer averages. The non-SEPA fee in particular is double or triple typical cantonal pricing. Use Wise or a credit card for foreign transfers; Light is best run as a multi-currency parking spot, not a payments hub.
Does Swissquote Light have a mobile banking app?
No mobile banking on Light, only browser-based online banking. If you do most of your banking on a phone, that's a friction. The trading apps Swissquote provides are separate from the multi-currency banking interface, so you can't manage the account on the go in the way Yuh or Neon allow.
