Switzerland's biggest bank offers 0.05% on savings. Above CHF 50,000, it's basically 0.01%.
The UBS Savings Account CHF ranks #23 among Switzerland's 31 savings accounts. It's the savings product from Switzerland's largest bank by assets. The rate reflects big-bank pricing: minimal. But for existing UBS customers, it's a simple add-on with institutional weight behind it.
At 0.05% per year up to CHF 50,000 and 0.01% above, this is among the weakest savings rates in Switzerland. On CHF 50,000, you earn CHF 25 annually. On CHF 100,000, the blended rate nets you CHF 30. That's less than the cost of a nice dinner.
The CHF 50,000 interest-bearing threshold is the lowest among major Swiss banks. UBS's own prestige doesn't translate into competitive savings returns. You're essentially storing money at near-zero interest.
It's included in the UBS Pay and Save Basic offering, which means no separate account fees. Online statements are free. For existing UBS customers, adding this account is frictionless. Also available for associations and foundations, which is a niche but useful feature.
The institutional reputation of UBS is the real draw. For savers who want their money at Switzerland's largest global bank, the rate is the price of that comfort. Deposits are covered by Swiss deposit insurance up to CHF 100,000.
The annual withdrawal limit is CHF 50,000 with a 3-month notice period. That's tighter than Migros Bank (CHF 50,000 monthly) or Bank Cler (CHF 100,000 yearly). For a big bank, the withdrawal flexibility is surprisingly restricted.
Age requirement: 20 years or older. Not suitable for payment services. The 0.01% rate above CHF 50,000 means you're earning CHF 5 per year on a CHF 50,000 excess balance. That's not a rounding error, it's functionally zero.
If you're already a UBS customer and want a savings account for convenience, this works. But don't expect your money to grow here. For actual returns, look at smaller banks with rates 10x to 20x higher. Compare them in our best savings accounts in Switzerland ranking.
Verdict: You're paying for the UBS name, not for savings returns. Fine for convenience, terrible for yield.
