Our take on Yuh

Your Swiss Finance Companion
Adrien Missioux
Adrien Missioux•

Yuh is great for your first CHF 500 in ETFs. At CHF 5,000 per order, it hurts.

Yuh for investing ranks #9 among 10 brokers. It's one of the cheapest ways to start, about CHF 39 a year for our starter, but our ETF investor pays CHF 130 and you can't move your securities out. It suits beginners investing small amounts through free recurring ETF buys.

At what point does Yuh's 0.5% stop making sense?

For small amounts, Yuh works. A CHF 500 buy costs CHF 2.50, there's no custody fee, and recurring buys on about 30 selected ETFs carry no trading fee at all (stamp duty still applies). Our starter profile pays about CHF 39 a year, the same as neon invest.

The maths turns at bigger tickets. A CHF 5,000 ETF buy costs CHF 25 at Yuh versus CHF 4 at Saxo, so our ETF investor pays CHF 130 a year instead of CHF 46. Somewhere between CHF 20,000 and 30,000 invested, a classic broker wins. Add 0.95% FX on foreign securities and US stocks get pricey fast.

What Actually Stands Out

Free recurring buys on about 30 ETFs are Yuh's best trick. Set a monthly amount, pick from the selection, and you pay no trading fee, only the Swiss stamp duty every Swiss broker charges (the Federal Tax Administration explains it, in German). With fractional shares, even small monthly amounts buy a slice of a global ETF.

Behind the app sits Swissquote Bank, FINMA-licensed, so your cash is covered by esisuisse up to CHF 100,000. One catch: that limit is per bank, so money at Yuh and at Swissquote counts together. You also get a CHF IBAN and a multi-currency account in the same app.

What Most Reviews Miss

Your securities can't be transferred out. If you ever want to move to Saxo or IBKR, you have to sell everything at Yuh and buy again at the new broker. That means paying Yuh's fee on the way out, commission and stamp duty on the way back in, and sitting in cash for a few days.

The 0.95% currency fee applies every time your francs buy a USD or EUR security, on top of the 0.5% trading fee. A CHF 2,000 US stock purchase costs CHF 10 in fees plus CHF 19 in FX. There's no bond, fund or options trading either. Yuh is a simple investing app, not a full broker.

The Bottom Line

Yuh is a good first step if you invest small amounts and want everything in one Swiss app. Just treat it as a starter account: because of the lock-in, the longer you stay, the more it costs to leave. If you're also weighing the other Swiss investing app, our neon invest review covers the differences.

Verdict: Fine for small monthly ETF plans; the no-transfer rule and 0.95% FX make it a poor long-term home.

Best for: beginners investing small monthly amounts into selected ETFs, Yuh users who want investing in the same app as their money, first-time investors who want fractional shares from small amounts
Consider alternatives if: you might want to move your portfolio to another broker later, you place orders of CHF 5,000 or more, you buy US stocks often and would pay 0.95% FX each time

Frequently asked questions

Does Yuh's trading fee drop for bigger orders?
Yes. You pay 0.50% up to CHF 10,000, 0.35% between CHF 10,000 and CHF 20,000, and 0.25% above CHF 20,000, with a CHF 1 minimum. A CHF 30,000 order therefore costs CHF 75, still far above a flat-fee broker.
Can I buy crypto on Yuh?
Yes, Yuh lets you buy crypto in the same app as your ETFs, with a 1% fee per trade. That's double the 0.5% you pay on stocks and ETFs up to CHF 10,000, so frequent crypto trading gets expensive quickly.
Can I invest with Yuh from my laptop?
No. Yuh has no web platform: buying, selling and checking your portfolio all happen in the mobile app. Swissquote, the bank behind Yuh, has a full web platform, but that's a separate account with its own fees.
