The Cornèrcard HCL Black Mastercard ranks #27 among 122 cashback cards in our ranking. It's Hockey Club Lugano's free fan card, issued by Cornèrcard. Bianconeri fans get club discounts, but the bigger story is that it's a no-fee version of a card most people pay for.
Why Is It Free?
Because HC Lugano co-brands it. The financial terms mirror the Cornèrcard Classic: 0.3% cashback on CHF purchases, 0.6% in foreign currencies, a 1.2% FX fee and CHF 2,000 purchase protection. The Classic costs CHF 100 a year from year two. The HCL Black costs nothing, for life.
The cashback is small, though. CHF 12,000 of Swiss spending returns CHF 36 a year. Abroad, 0.6% back only covers half of the 1.2% FX fee, so CHF 2,000 in euros leaves you CHF 12 down. Still, it's the cheapest way into Cornèrcard's cashback programme.
What Actually Stands Out
The fan perks: 10% off official match jerseys at Shop '41, 10% at the Club '41 restaurant, access to HCL partner benefits and HCL competitions. The iCornèr app also lets you pay QR invoices, like your HCL season ticket, straight from the card.
New cardholders applying by 30 November 2026 get 1,000 HCL points, credited in December 2026. The catch: you need a 5a Linea membership to redeem them. Apple Pay and Samsung Pay work, and you don't need a Cornèr bank account.
What Most Reviews Miss
There's no travel insurance. The HCL page says an insurance package is included, but on the Black that means purchase protection, not cover for your trips. If you want travel and medical insurance, that's the HCL Gold at CHF 80 a year.
It's also Mastercard only. Cornèrcard's own Classic gives you a Visa and a Mastercard for its fee; here you get one network. In Switzerland that rarely matters, but it's worth knowing if you liked having a backup card in your wallet.
The Bottom Line

- No. Cornèrcard's fee table (edition 08.2026) lists no additional cards for the HCL Black. Your partner would need their own HCL Black, which is also free, so the only downside is two separate bills.
- When does HCL Black cashback actually get paid?
- Once you've collected CHF 25. It's credited to your statement in one go, not per purchase. At 0.3% on CHF spending, that takes CHF 8,334 of purchases, so at CHF 1,000 a month your first credit lands in month nine. Foreign-currency purchases at 0.6% get you there twice as fast.
