Our Take on findependent Switzerland 80

Your Swiss Finance Companion
Adrien Missioux
Adrien Missioux•

Same fee and same building blocks as Global 80. Fifteen ranking places lower. The Swiss tilt explains it.

findependent Switzerland 80 ranks #19 of 109 3a investment funds, while Global 80 ranks #4 with the same fee and asset mix. The rank uses findependent's simulated figures, as there's no real performance before the October 2026 launch. The difference is where your money lives: here, 80% of the stocks are Swiss, and every bond is in francs.

How Does the Return Stack Up?

In findependent's back-test, Switzerland 80 returned +27.7% over five years and +105.6% over ten, after all costs. Global 80 simulated +42.2% and +144.6% over the same periods. Over the past decade, global markets led by the US simply outran Switzerland, and the scoring reflects that.

Costs are identical across the range: 0.29% all-in, with no custody fee and no FX markup. On CHF 40,000, you pay CHF 116 a year. For context, finpension Global 80 (#16) charges 0.39%, or CHF 156, and its rank comes from real returns rather than simulated ones.

What Actually Stands Out

This is the only findependent focus where every bond is in Swiss francs. The 9% bond sleeve has no emerging market USD slice, unlike Standard 80 and Global 80. Add 10% Swiss real estate and 80% of your equities in Swiss companies, and you get a growth 3a that mostly lives in your own currency.

Custody is conservative: fund units sit at Zürcher Kantonalbank as special assets, about 1% cash at Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, and your 3a belongs to a pension foundation separate from Findependent AG. The underlying Swisscanto funds and their exclusions are documented on the Swisscanto factsheets.

What Most Reviews Miss

Swiss large caps are top-heavy. Nestlé, Novartis and Roche account for about 45% of the Large Caps Switzerland fund, so a stumble at one of them shows up in your balance. In the back-test, the home tilt didn't protect much either: Switzerland 80 fell 30.2% in 2008, against 36.3% for Global 80.

The 10% real estate slice also carries costs the headline hides. The Swisscanto real estate fund itself has a 0.00% TER, but it invests in Swiss real estate funds that charge their own fees, as findependent points out. On a 10% slice the effect is modest, but 0.29% isn't quite the whole story.

The Bottom Line

Switzerland 80 is for investors who want a growth 3a that stays mostly in francs and Swiss companies, and who accept the lower back-tested return that came with it. If returns are your priority, Global 80 or Standard 80 rank higher at the same fee. Run the numbers on your own contributions with our Pillar 3a calculator.

Verdict: A low-cost, franc-focused growth 3a. Pick it for the home bias, not for the ranking.

Best For: investors who want a growth 3a with no foreign-currency bonds, savers who prefer owning Swiss companies over a US-heavy world index, people who want 10% Swiss real estate alongside Swiss equities
Consider Alternatives If: you want the strongest back-tested result at 80% equities, you're uncomfortable with three Swiss giants driving much of your equity return, you'd rather avoid indirect real estate fund costs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much real estate does findependent Switzerland 80 hold?
10%, invested in Swiss real estate through a Swisscanto index fund. The rest is 80% stocks, 9% bonds and 1% cash, so real estate is a bigger building block than bonds in this strategy.
Which bank holds my findependent Switzerland 80 assets?
Two banks share the job. Zürcher Kantonalbank holds the securities, which make up 99% of this strategy, and Hypothekarbank Lenzburg holds the 1% cash. You don't deal with either bank directly; everything runs through findependent's app.
What is the 10-year return of findependent Switzerland 80?
+105.6% cumulative over ten years, after all costs, according to findependent's back-test as of 30 September 2026. That's a simulation from index data, not a live result, since the 3a only launched on 19 October 2026. Over five years, the simulated figure is +27.7%.
