What is the Simply Card Smart?
The Simply Card Smart is a Visa credit card from BonusCard, the Zurich-based card brand of Cornèr Banca SA. It's built around one promise: no annual fee, now and later. "Free" here means the annual fee only, which is the cost most cards charge you just for having them. BonusCard also issues the Classic, Gold and Exclusive cards, on Visa or Mastercard, for CHF 48 to CHF 216 a year. The Simply Card Smart is its only free card, and the one this page covers.
What sets it apart from other free cards is the 0.5% foreign currency fee, the lowest of the 139 cards we track (the median is 1.75%). It also comes with travel delay and luggage insurance and a 24-month extended warranty on electronic devices, plus mobile payments and the MyOnlineServices app.
Where the offer applies
Why the Simply Card Smart?
Free for life. No annual fee in the first year or any year after. You can keep it as your everyday card or as a backup without it costing you anything.
A low 0.5% foreign currency fee. Most Swiss cards charge 1.5% to 2.5% on payments in euros, dollars or any other currency. On CHF 1,000 spent abroad, that's CHF 5 with the Simply Card Smart against CHF 17.50 at the 1.75% median.
#1 of 29 student cards on GetRates. No fee and a low FX fee make it our top pick in the student credit card ranking.
Insurance included. Travel delay insurance covers the extra costs if your trip is cancelled at short notice or delayed, luggage insurance covers lost luggage, and the extended warranty adds 24 months to the manufacturer's warranty on electrical and electronic devices.
The honest limits. From 30 November 2026 the cashback rate is low: 0.2% in CHF and 0.3% abroad. Cards like the poinz Amex pay 1%. And cashback is only paid out from CHF 25, which at 0.2% means about CHF 12,500 of spending in CHF. Pick the Simply Card Smart for the zero fee and the low FX fee, not for the rewards.
From bonus points to cashback on 30 November 2026
BonusCard is replacing its bonus points with cashback. You don't need to do anything, but it pays to know the dates.
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Until 25.11.2026 | Last day to redeem your bonus points in the Rewards Shop (vouchers, donations, award miles or a credit on your card) |
| Until 29.11.2026 | Purchases still earn 1 bonus point per CHF 1, double abroad with MyCountry |
| 30.11.2026 | Your remaining points show up as cashback, converted at 100 points = CHF 1 |
| From 30.11.2026 | Every purchase earns 0.2% cashback in CHF and 0.3% in foreign currency, with nothing to activate |
At 100 points = CHF 1, today's bonus points are worth more per franc spent than the new cashback rate. BonusCard says it may run temporary double or triple cashback campaigns.
Simply Card Smart vs other free credit cards
Among the 23 cards we track with no annual fee for life, the Simply Card Smart has the lowest foreign currency fee by a wide margin. The next best charges 1.2%, and the median is 2%.
| Card | Annual fee | Foreign currency fee | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simply Card Smart Visa | CHF 0 | 0.5% | Cashback 0.2% in CHF, 0.3% abroad (from 30.11.2026) |
| Certo! One Mastercard | CHF 0 | 1.5% | Cashback 1% at Migros, Coop and SBB, 0.25% elsewhere |
| Migros Cumulus Visa | CHF 0 | 1.75% | Cumulus points |
| poinz Card Amex | CHF 0 | 2.5% | Cashback 1% (Amex), 0.25% (Visa) |
| Swisscard Cashback Amex | CHF 0 | 2.5% | Cashback 1% (Amex), 0.25% (Visa or Mastercard) |
If you mostly pay in Switzerland, a 1% cashback card earns more. If you travel or shop in other currencies, the Simply Card Smart costs less. Many people keep one of each. See all free credit cards and the student card ranking.
Simply Card Smart: is it worth it?
Yes, if you want a credit card that costs nothing to keep and doesn't punish you abroad. CHF 0 a year for life and a 0.5% foreign currency fee is a rare combination in Switzerland, and the included travel delay, luggage and extended warranty insurance are a fair bonus for a free card.
Don't pick it for the rewards. From 30 November 2026 the cashback is 0.2% at home and 0.3% abroad, paid out from CHF 25. As a travel card, a student's first card or a free backup, it's one of the best choices around. Read the full Simply Card Smart review.
