- Swisscard AECS GmbH issues the cards, so its credit check applies.
- The offer runs until 31 Dec 2026.
What is poinz?
poinz started as a Swiss cashback app (1,500+ brands, 400 partners) and later added its own credit cards, issued by Swisscard. You get an American Express and a Visa as a pair, both free.
The Amex does the heavy lifting with 1% back on everything, or 3% in your first three months (capped at CHF 100 extra). The Visa pays 0.25% and exists for the shops that won't take Amex. Your cashback collects in the app and you can cash it out from CHF 100, or swap it for vouchers sooner.
Where the offer applies
How does poinz cashback actually work?
You don't activate anything. Pay with the Amex and you get 1% back, pay with the Visa and you get 0.25%. For the first three months the Amex pays 3%, which is where most of the early value sits (up to CHF 100 extra). Shop at poinz partners through the app and their cashback stacks on top.
Cashback shows up in your poinz account within 24 hours. Once you hit CHF 100, you can send it to your bank. Want to see how that stacks up? Here are the best cashback credit cards in Switzerland.
What fees does poinz charge?
No annual fee on either card, ever. What you should watch is the small print: 2.5% on anything in a foreign currency, 3.75% on cash withdrawals (at least CHF 5 in Switzerland, CHF 10 abroad), CHF 1.95 for a paper invoice, CHF 30 for a reminder and CHF 25 for a replacement card.
Honestly, all of that is avoidable at home. Set up eBill or direct debit, pay in full, and the cards cost you nothing. Abroad is another story. I'd pack a card without FX fees for trips (here are the free credit cards worth a look).
poinz review: is it worth it?
For everyday spending in Switzerland, yes. 1% cashback on a card with no annual fee is rare here, and I'd put the poinz Amex near the top of the free cards we compare. Add the CHF 100 Coop voucher and ordering through our link is an easy call.
Here's the catch, though. Amex isn't accepted everywhere (that's why the Visa comes along), and the 2.5% FX fee makes the pair a poor travel companion. Use them at home, leave them in the drawer on holiday.
poinz: frequently asked questions
Is there a poinz promo code?
No, and you don't need one. The GetRates offer is tied to our link. Order the free Amex and Visa through it, choose the CHF 100 Coop voucher as your welcome gift, and you're done. It runs until 31 Dec 2026.
How does poinz make money if the cards are free?
Three ways. Partner shops pay poinz a commission when you buy through the app, there are affiliate fees, and poinz gets a share of the interchange (the fee shops pay on every card payment). That's what funds your cashback.
What fees does the poinz credit card charge?
There's no annual fee. You pay 2.5% on foreign-currency payments and 3.75% on cash withdrawals (minimum CHF 5 in Switzerland, CHF 10 abroad). Add CHF 1.95 for a paper invoice, CHF 30 per reminder and CHF 25 for a replacement card.
How much cashback does poinz pay?
The poinz American Express pays 1%, or 3% during your first three months (up to CHF 100 extra). The Visa pays 0.25%. Cashback lands within 24 hours, and you can pay it out once you reach CHF 100.
Why do I get both an Amex and a Visa?
Because the Amex pays more but plenty of Swiss shops still don't take it. The Visa is your backup for those, so you always have a free card that works at the till.
