Our Take on finpension Sustainable 60

A sustainable 60% equity 3a for 0.39%, within 0.1 points of its Global twin over five years.
finpension Sustainable 60 ranks #39 among 122 3a investment funds in our comparison, with results close to Global 60. It holds 60% stocks, 30% bonds, 9% real estate and 1% cash, mostly in Swisscanto's Responsible index funds. It suits investors 10 to 20 years from retirement who want a balanced sustainable 3a without a bank-style fee.
Does Sustainable Cost More Here?
No. Sustainable 60 costs the same flat 0.39% a year, all-in, as Global 60. That's CHF 195 on CHF 50,000, below VIAC Global 60 at 0.44% (CHF 220) and the 0.77% average of other 3a funds in our comparison (CHF 385). Sustainable 3a funds such as UBS Vitainvest Sustainable or the nachhaltig ranges of Bank Cler and BKB cost 1.2% to 1.6%, or CHF 600 to CHF 800 on the same balance.
Net of fees, it's up 9.85% over one year, 30.77% over three and 14.52% over five. finpension Global 60 shows 10.11%, 31.42% and 14.59%. Over five years, the gap is just 0.07 percentage points. At this level, choosing sustainable has cost you almost nothing in performance so far.
What Actually Stands Out
The engine is the same as every finpension strategy: institutional Swisscanto index funds reserved for pension money. They reclaim a large part of the foreign withholding tax on dividends, and there's no stamp duty on purchases and sales. Swisscanto by Zürcher Kantonalbank is the custodian, and your 3a belongs to the finpension 3a Vorsorgestiftung, not to the app company.
Flexibility is the other plus. finpension offers 18 ready-made strategies (Global, Switzerland and Sustainable at six equity levels), and you can hold up to five 3a portfolios side by side, each with its own strategy. Money is invested weekly. If you want to step down to Sustainable 40 or 20 as retirement nears, you can switch without leaving the provider.
What Most Reviews Miss
Sustainable doesn't mean 100% Responsible funds. Stocks, Corp. World bonds and Swiss franc bonds use Responsible versions, about 81% of the portfolio. The World ex CHF government bonds (6%), emerging market hard currency bonds (3%) and real estate funds (9%) are the same funds as in Global 60. Our sustainable 3a funds guide compares the sustainable options across providers.
The Swiss home bias stays too: about 40% of the stocks are Swiss, 24% of the whole portfolio. That cuts currency swings but concentrates money in Swiss companies. And a 60/30 mix still moves with markets. The five-year return sits well below the three-year one because the window includes the bond sell-off when interest rates rose in 2022.
The Bottom Line
finpension Sustainable 60 is one of the simplest ways to hold a balanced sustainable 3a at a low, flat price, and it tracks Global 60 closely. findependent Switzerland 60 is cheaper at 0.29%, but its figures are back-tested, since the product only launched in October 2026. If you open a finpension account, code RTEQJB gives a CHF 25 fee credit after you pay in CHF 1,000 within 12 months (enter it at sign-up or within 24 hours).
Verdict: A low-cost balanced sustainable 3a that stays close to its Global twin. A solid pick for ESG-minded investors 10 to 20 years out.
