Our Take on neon global

CHF 8 a month for travel, shopping and cyber insurance. The banking upgrade over neon plus is surprisingly small.
neon global ranks #10 of the 12 neobanks we rank, with 4.3/5. It sits between neon plus and neon metal and adds insurance more than banking. Whether it makes sense depends almost entirely on whether you'd buy that cover anyway.
Are the Fees Worth It?
neon global costs CHF 8 a month or CHF 80 a year, with a 12-month minimum term. Over neon plus, the banking extras are modest: a third free Swiss ATM withdrawal each month, cash abroad at 0.5% instead of 1%, a free debit card instead of CHF 20, and 20% back on the Wise fee for international transfers.
Put numbers on it. The extra withdrawal saves CHF 30 a year if you use it every month. Halving the abroad fee saves CHF 1 per CHF 200 withdrawn. Paid monthly, global costs CHF 72 a year more than plus, so the banking side alone rarely covers the gap. The insurance has to do the heavy lifting.
What Actually Stands Out
Travel, shopping and cyber insurance are bundled in, and that's the real reason this plan exists. If you'd otherwise pay for a separate travel policy, the maths changes quickly. Check the exact cover, limits and exclusions in the insurance details on neon's plans page before you count on it.
The rest is neon's usual strong core. Card payments abroad carry no neon surcharge, the account sits at Hypothekarbank Lenzburg with a native Swiss IBAN and eBill, and deposits are protected up to CHF 100,000. Lose your card on a trip and shipping the replacement abroad is free, against CHF 80 on neon free and plus.
What Most Reviews Miss
The 12-month minimum term is easy to miss next to the one month on neon plus. Sign up for the travel cover before a summer trip and you're paying until next summer. TWINT is TWINT Prepaid only, topped up from your neon balance, so it's never linked straight to the account.
Swiss cash isn't free beyond the third withdrawal, at CHF 2.50 each after that. The account holds francs only, so incoming euros get converted at a surcharge of up to 1.5%. And the Wise cashback is 20% of the transfer fee, not of the amount: if Wise charges CHF 10 on a transfer, you get CHF 2 back.
The Bottom Line
Pick neon global if you'd pay for travel or purchase protection anyway and want it bundled with a zero-markup Swiss card. If you just want cheap spending abroad, neon plus does that for CHF 24 a year, and if you withdraw a lot of cash abroad, run the numbers on metal. Weigh the plans in our best neobanks in Switzerland ranking.
Verdict: An insurance bundle with a good bank account attached. Worth it only if you'd actually use the cover.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I cancel neon global anytime?
- No. neon global has a 12-month minimum term, whether you pay CHF 8 a month or CHF 80 for the year. If you only want it for one trip, you're still paying for a full year.
- Can I hold euros in a neon global account?
- No. Even the CHF 8 plan holds francs only, so there's no separate EUR or USD balance. If you're paid in euros or keep savings in dollars, you'll need a second account for that.
- What does neon global charge for cash withdrawals?
- Three withdrawals a month in Switzerland are free, then CHF 2.50 each. Abroad, neon takes 0.5% of the amount, so CHF 300 in Bangkok costs CHF 1.50.
