How to redeem the neon promo code

  1. 1

    Copy the code

Click the button above. GETRATES is copied and neon opens in a new tab. Upper or lower case doesn't matter.

  2. 2

Open your account in the app

Download the neon app and sign up with your ID, by photo or video call. Enter GETRATES when the app asks for a code. It only works during account opening, not afterwards.

  3. 3

Top up at least CHF 1

Send any amount from CHF 1 to your new neon IBAN within two months. A single franc is enough.

  4. 4

    Collect your CHF 10

What is neon?

neon is a Swiss smartphone bank from Zurich. It's not a bank itself: your account is run by Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, a FINMA-regulated Swiss bank, so deposits are protected by esisuisse up to CHF 100,000. Same protection as at UBS or your cantonal bank.

The free plan gives you a Swiss IBAN, a Debit Mastercard, eBill and QR bills, spaces to split your savings and neon invest for shares and ETFs. No base fee, no minimum balance. Just keep an eye on cash withdrawals (more on that below).

Where the offer applies

What does a neon account cost?

On neon free the account itself costs nothing. The first card is normally a one-time CHF 20, which is exactly what GETRATES waives. Domestic payments, eBill and QR bills are free.

Cash is where neon free gets pricier. Every withdrawal at a Swiss ATM costs CHF 2.50, from the first one. Pro tip: ask for cash at the checkout at Coop, Lidl or ALDI instead (minimum purchase CHF 10), that's free. Our bank account fees guide shows how that compares.

Is neon good for paying abroad?

Pretty good. Card payments abroad use the Mastercard rate plus a 0.35% surcharge on neon free, well below the 1.5% to 2% many Swiss banks still charge. ATM withdrawals abroad cost 1.5% of the amount.

Sending money abroad runs through Wise inside the app, so you see the fee before you confirm. Want the head-to-head with the other big Swiss neobank? Read our neon vs Yuh comparison.

neon review: is it worth it?

For a free Swiss everyday account, neon is one of the most complete: real Swiss IBAN, eBill, esisuisse protection and a cheap card abroad. With GETRATES you skip the CHF 20 card fee and pocket CHF 10, so you start CHF 30 ahead.

The one habit to change is cash. If you hit a Swiss ATM every week, the CHF 2.50 adds up fast. Pay by card, grab cash at the supermarket checkout, and neon free really does cost you nothing.

neon: frequently asked questions

What is the neon promo code?

It's GETRATES. Enter it while opening your neon account, top up at least CHF 1 within two months, and you get CHF 10 plus your first card for free (normally CHF 20). Upper or lower case both work.

When do I get the CHF 10 from neon?

After your first top-up of at least CHF 1. It has to happen within two months of opening the account. Once the money is in, neon credits the CHF 10 to your account.

Can I add the neon code after opening my account?

No. The code has to be entered during account opening. If you've already signed up without it, neon can't apply it afterwards.

Is my money safe with neon?

Yes. Your account is held at Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, a Swiss bank regulated by FINMA. Deposits are protected by esisuisse up to CHF 100,000 per client, just like at any Swiss bank.

Does the neon code work on the paid plans?

The code is entered at account opening, whichever plan you choose. neon plus costs CHF 2 a month, neon global CHF 8 and neon metal CHF 15, each with fewer fees on cash and payments abroad. For most people, neon free is the place to start.
