What is Revolut?

Revolut is the app-first money account that half of Switzerland's travellers seem to carry. Behind it is Revolut Bank UAB, a bank licensed by the European Central Bank and supervised in Lithuania, represented here by the FINMA-authorised Revolut (Switzerland) AG.

What you get with the free Standard plan: a multi-currency account, a debit card, a Swiss IBAN (issued through a partnership with PostFinance) and free payments in CHF and EUR within SEPA. In September 2026 Revolut applied to FINMA for a full Swiss banking licence, and the application is under review.

Where the offer applies

What does a Revolut account cost?

The Standard plan has no monthly fee. Your first physical card is free, you only pay delivery (CHF 5.99 standard, CHF 19.99 express). Virtual cards cost nothing, a replacement card is CHF 5.99.

Cash is where you should keep an eye on things. The first 5 ATM withdrawals or CHF 200 per rolling month are free (whichever comes first), in Switzerland and abroad. After that it's 2%, at least CHF 1 per withdrawal. For how that compares, see our bank account fees guide.

Is Revolut good for travelling and paying abroad?

This is Revolut's home turf. On weekdays you exchange at Revolut's rate with no fee, up to CHF 1,250 a month. Go past that and a 1% fair usage fee applies. Same 1% at weekends (Friday 5pm to Sunday 6pm, New York time), so pro tip: change money before Friday evening.

Sending money abroad? Euro transfers within SEPA are free. Other international transfers cost 0.15% with a minimum that depends on the currency, for example CHF 1.60 for US dollars to the United States.

Revolut in Switzerland: what should you know first?

Your money sits with Revolut Bank UAB, so deposits are covered by the Lithuanian guarantee scheme up to EUR 100,000, not by the Swiss esisuisse scheme. Worth knowing if you plan to park a big balance there.

A few Swiss habits aren't supported yet: no TWINT connection, no eBill and no LSV direct debit. And CHF balances don't earn interest. That's why many people keep a Swiss everyday account next to it. Our ranking of the best neobanks shows which ones pair well.

Revolut review: is it worth it?

For travel, currency exchange and splitting bills with friends abroad, Revolut is hard to beat, and the Standard plan costs nothing. With CHF 20 for a single payment, opening one through our link is an easy decision.

Here's how I'd use it: as your spending and travel account, with your salary, eBill invoices and TWINT staying at a Swiss bank. That combo gives you the best of both.

Revolut: frequently asked questions

Is there a Revolut promo code in Switzerland?

You don't need one. The GetRates offer is tied to our link: open your account through it, make a first payment of at least CHF 0.01 and you get CHF 20. The promotion runs until 31 Dec 2027.

How do I get the Revolut welcome bonus?

Four steps. Sign up through our link, verify your identity in the app, add money, then make one payment with your card (CHF 0.01 is enough). The offer is for people who've never had a Revolut account.

Is Revolut free in Switzerland?

The Standard plan is. No monthly fee, free CHF and SEPA payments and no exchange fee on weekdays up to CHF 1,250 a month. You pay for card delivery (from CHF 5.99), ATM withdrawals beyond the free allowance and weekend exchanges.

Is my money safe with Revolut?

Revolut Bank UAB is a bank licensed by the European Central Bank and supervised in Lithuania. Deposits are protected by the Lithuanian deposit guarantee scheme up to EUR 100,000. In Switzerland, Revolut is represented by the FINMA-authorised Revolut (Switzerland) AG.

Does Revolut work with TWINT?

Not at the moment. Revolut isn't connected to TWINT, and eBill and LSV direct debits aren't supported either. For those, keep a Swiss account alongside.
